Standish Service Station Limited was founded in 1958. Known as Delph Service Station with ESSO petrol on sale situated on Preston Road, Standish and had just one lubrication bay.

The petrol station and lubrication bay became increasingly busy, due to the dedication of both my Mother and Father. As the garage continued to prosper additions were made.

My Father had one of the first automatic car washes to be installed in the area and also an ESSO accessories shop was added. In 1970 the premises were purchased from ESSO Petroleum Company so the business could follow its own direction .

The business has steadily grown over the years, incorporating new ideas and changing with technology and the flexibility of what our customers require. We underwent a refurbishment in 1997 and also gained ISO9002 accreditation. This involved adding 5 workshop bays and modern reception and office areas.

Since then we have decided to move and after a long process a decision was made and on September 18^th 2009 Standish Service Station Ltd moved to a brand new facility located within the Bradley Hall Trading Estate, Standish.

The new facility which is an impressive 6500sq ft has been designed from scratch and has had input from the entire workforce enabling us to maximize space and ease of working.

We have a new comfortable reception area for our customers with hot and cold drinks and snack facilities where they can wait while one of our trained technicians takes care of their vehicle.

Within the new premises we have a large M.O.T lane catering for class 4, 5 & 7 vehicles. We also have a new dedicated vehicle lift specially designed and installed to cater for large motor homes inc 6 wheel versions.

We are very proud of our new premises and although our old site on Preston Road has been our home for over 50yrs, we feel that our new home will impress customers old and new for some time to come!

In 2003 the EU introduced a ruling that enabled owners to have their vehicles serviced by independent garages, as opposed to only franchised dealerships without invalidating the manufacturer’s warranty.

Our company is a Bosch Service Garage and also a member of ‘The Good Garage’ scheme and Wigan Trading Standards. We are checked yearly by each organization and all our technicians are Bosch trained who regularly attend courses giving you the customer ‘peace of mind!’
Our servicing types comprise of the manufacturers service schedules which are held on our system and updated each month. This type of servicing allows us to service your vehicle to the manufacturer’s recommendations using only genuine parts so we DO NOT INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY under the Block Exemption Ruling.

We also offer 2 other types of service which are:

Do not confuse our Full Service with other ‘Full Services’ offered by other garages as we actually strip your brakes and clean the brake calipers ,discs and brake linings and adjust everything compared to ‘just checking’

Company vehicles:

If you drive a company car or van and have the inconvenience of having to travel to the franchised dealer to have it serviced, then why not give our friendly service reception a call and book it in with us as we hold accounts with ALL the major fleet companies and for your convenience, we probably could carry out the service while you wait? Or alternatively, you could use one of our courtesy vehicles.
All parts supplied and fitted carry a 12 month, 12,000 mile nationwide guarantee, so if for some reason, something fails then it will be dealt with wherever you may be.

If your vehicle has been in for a service or major repair, we endeavor to hand the vehicle back to you washed and clean.

The M.O.T Test is a yearly comprehensive check of a motor vehicle carried out by trained personnel who have been checked and vetted by VOSA who are the governing body that looks after all aspects of M.OT Testing and vehicle checks throughout the country.

Standish Service Station Ltd can carry out tests on the following classes of vehicles:

• CLASS 4-This is for vehicles with up to 8 passengers
• CLASS 5-This is for Private vehicles with more than 13 seats
• CLASS 7-This is for vehicles with a weight between 3000kg and 3500kg

Here at our new premises much like our old premises we can carry out M.O.T tests to the very largest of vehicles that other testing stations cannot accommodate due to either their height or length or even both and that is why we have continued to use a M.O.T pit instead of a ramp as this gives us a greater and wider aspect of vehicles that we are able to test, so weather you have a car or a light commercial vehicle or even the largest motor-home or limousine, Standish Service Station Ltd can accommodate it so why don’t you contact us by phone or e-mail and one of our friendly trained staff will book your vehicle in for its annual test at your convenience.

Here at Standish Service Station Ltd we carry out all types of repairs to vehicles and light commercials and have updated our equipment and premises to suit all modern vehicles.

As well as routine servicing, we also carry out repairs or replacement to brakes and clutches using OE parts ensuring a nationwide warranty. We can replace your exhaust system with a new system or part system and all exhausts we fit carry a 2yr Guarantee.

If your vehicle requires any welding or panel repairs, we have 4 technicians who can carry out these repairs using the latest Mig welder.

Standish Service Station Limited has over 50 years experience in vehicle recovery and even though we opted to cease working for the major breakdown clubs at the end of 2008 it has not stopped us using our great wealth of experience for any type of recovery that we are asked to carry out.

We have a recovery vehicle specially designed and built to cater for the supercars that are very low to the ground like Ferraris and TVR. These vehicles pose no problems due to the very small loading angle of the recovery platform ensuring no damage is caused to the low spoilers etc.
One of the large service vans has been specifically kitted out for the safe recovery of all motorcycles and scooters inc two passengers.

We also have a full operator’s license enabling us to move new cars or caravans or forklift trucks, without breaking the law.

SERVICE / REPAIR RECORDS
We are committed to keeping a full service record on your vehicle. We also ensure that you receive reminders for Service / MOT’s. No work is carried out without your approval.

Today’s modern motor vehicles are run by computers and sensors which are all around the engine and the vehicle itself. It is these sensors that gather all sorts of information and sends the captured data back to the relevant onboard computer, which in-turn then decides what to do with the information received and what alterations it has to make to the running of the vehicle based on this information.

Just like your computer at home or at the office, gremlins can strike and when this happens to a motor vehicle it normally illuminates a light on the dash which is normally a picture of an engine to say that a fault has occurred and it requires taking into a Diagnostic centre to be interrogated for the fault.

This is when specialist equipment is then used which is plugged into the vehicles on-board socket and speaks with the vehicles on-board computers to find out what has happened.

Now there is a myth with people that once the vehicles system is read, it actually tells the technician what is wrong with it and how to rectify the fault……………This is not true!!

Once the system is read, it will give the technician a code or several codes depending on the fault. This is where a good technician and his Diagnostic Equipment differ greatly from someone who just reads a code like a book.

Being Bosch trained and attending regular courses to make sure that they have the latest skills, our technicians will analyse the codes and then they can also go into the vehicles system and look at LIVE DATA of a particular component or components depending on the codes given to determine

1. If the component is faulty
2. If the component has given a error message due to another component
3. If the component is working ok but there seems to be a problem with the power to it (wiring)

This enables us to correctly diagnose the fault and rectify it 1st time instead of just replacing a component that the computer has said it has a fault with but not necessarily being faulty, thus hopefully saving you the customer money and also your vehicle rectified efficiently.
